If you’re looking at getting in to paddlesports for the first time we have a variety of ways to get you out on the water, either with or without an instructor, so you can try it out how you want to.
Coached Tasters: Going out on the water with an instructor for your first time is always a good idea. All of our instructors are national governing body qualified and have a wealth of knowledge across a variety of disciplines. For your first time on the water, they are particularly useful for talking you through your chosen craft (usually kayaks, canoes, or stand-up paddleboards), teaching you how to safely get on and off of the water, and teaching you the basics of how to get around while you’re on the water. On the other hand, some people prefer not to be coached too much, but just have a guided paddle on the water, having a coach with them for reassurance and feeling safer.
Coached taster sessions can be run 1:1 or up to 1:5 if you would like to go out as a group, and can be booked online.
Pay and Play: We also run a pay and play system. For this you effectively rent out sit-on-top kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, or katakanus, and go out on the river without an instructor directly on the water with you. We ask you to keep within sight of the centre, giving you roughly 1000m of river to play around on, and we give you a full safety briefing before you get on. We have double and single sit-on-top kayaks available.
Some people prefer this option if they are more confident, or would just simply prefer to go out on the water without an instructor. The instructor who briefed you will keep an eye on you while you’re out on the water to make sure you’re alright.
